If 2020 would be remembered for one thing, it'd be for the Coronavirus. COVID-19 and President Trump's racialized language, such as "Chinese Virus" and "Kung Flu," has spurred many Americans to scapegoat and blame Chinese Americans for the spread of COVID-19, resulting in an escalation of anti-Asian racism, hate crimes and incidences, and xenophobia.
STOP AAPI HATE, in their National Report, has received 2,583 reports of anti-Asian hate crimes and incidences from Mar. 19th, 2020 to Aug. 8th, 2020. In their Youth Report, they've discovered that 81% of Asian youth have experienced bullying or verbal harassment. Hidden behind the data and numbers are the individual stories and families affected emotionally, financially, spiritually by the pandemic. Join us on Thursday, Nov. 12th from 8PM to 9PM to learn from one another and to share our experiences on how the pandemic has affected our lives, our families, and our community. |
